Discography

Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra

The routs of this ensemble go back to 1915 and the "Orchester des Konzertvereins" (Orchestra of the Concert Society). With the start of a radio station in Leipzig in 1924, it became the "Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Leipzig" (Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra). Since then, the Orchestra became closely connected to German contemporary composers such as Ernst Krenek, Arthur Honegger, Paul Hindemith, Arnold Schönberg und Richard Strauss, who all conducted or performed their works with the ensemble. From 1987-1991, Max Pommer held the position of Chief Conductor.

With the new establishment of the MDR radio channel in Leipzig in 1991, the Orchestra merged with the Radio's other orchestra, the "Radio-Philharmonie Leipzig", into the "MDR Sinfonieorchester" (MDR Symphony Orchestra). Its current Artistic Director and Chief Conductor since 1999 has been Fabio Luisi.
