Hamburger Camerata

The Hamburger Camerata was founded in 1986 and has made an outstanding name for itself since then with unusual, sophisticated programmes and interpretations. The ensemble's playing is characterized by brilliant technical precision and unconventional liveliness, stylistic accuracy, a flexible chamber music sound and energetic enthusiasm. Under conductors Max Pommer, Claus Bantzer and Ralf Gothóni, the orchestra has made a unique place for itself on Hamburg's music scene with its concert series at Laeiszhalle Hamburg, which was launched in 1990. Wideranging programmes of chamber music-like symphonic works and symphonic chamber music as well as a commitment to contemporary music are typical of this concert series.
Max Pommer served as Artistic Director of the Hamburger Camerata from 2001-2011. Since 2011 Gustav Frielinghaus, first violinist of the Amaryllis Quartet, has been concertmaster of the chamber orchestra. In 2012 the Hamburger Camerata engaged the superb, award-winning young conductor Simon Gaudenz as its new Chief Conductor. Under his direction, the orchestra makes an important contribution to Hamburg's new era as a musical centre and also acts as Hamburg's musical ambassador far beyond the city's limits.
In addition to its subscription series at leading churches in Hamburg and northern Germany, the ensemble appears to great acclaim at international music festivals and concert halls throughout Germany and abroad.
The Hamburger Camerata is committed to sustainable and ongoing music education, particularly for
children from deprived areas, offering family concerts, the Elbwichtel concerts for three- to six-year-olds, school and day care centre concerts, sponsorships, visits to schools and day care centres, opportunities to attend orchestra rehearsals and workshops, with which they reach more than 10,000 children and young people every year.
Numerous sponsors, business partners, friends and supporters as well as the board of trustees, with Rolf
Seelmann-Eggebert as chairman, make an invaluable contribution towards helping the Hamburger Camerata achieve its artistic goals over the long term.
