The Finnish star soprano Karita Mattila's long-time dream of performing jazz and light music standards in a tailored show came to reality during the second half of August, when Tampere Hall in Finland produced four sold-out Fever concerts featuring the Finnish "body-and-soul diva" in front of an excited audience. The programme included favourite songs by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Tom Jobim, and many other legendary composers of the Great American Songbook or Brazilian Bossa Nova. All songs were arranged by Finnish jazz icon Kirmo Lintinen who, together with his band and the vocal trio How Many Sisters, backed Karita Mattila as musical director, conductor and pianist throughout the evenings. Set and costumes were designed by Markku Piri who developed the original artistic concept together with Karita Mattila. Stage and choreography were devised by Tiina Lindfors.
The musical performances were praised unanimously by the Finnish press:
- Karita Mattila attained the sensual atmosphere, the musicality of the language and the vocal ease of the song. (sensuellin tunnelman, kielen soivuuden ja vokaalisen eleettömyyden Mattila tavoitti mainiosti.) - Harri Hautala / Aamulehti
- One can sense that Mattila really respects Cole Porter, Billy Strayhorn and all the other master composers of the evening. (Kaikesta huokui, että Mattila todella kunnioittaa Cole Porteria, Billy Strayhornia ja illan muita mestarisäveltäjiä.) - Vesa Sirén / Helsingin Sanomat
- This is a long-awaited affair... only now did Karita Mattila take the risk of giving a jazz concert.. (Det har hängt i luften en längre tid...först nu tog Karita Mattila risken att ge en jazzkonsert.) - Jan Granberg / Hufvudstadsbladet
- Blue Moon swayed genuinely. (Blue Moon –sävelmä keinahteli aidosti.) - Jarmo Wallenius / Turun Sanomat
