Yvonne Naef, mezzo-soprano

A native of Switzerland, Yvonne Naef is one the most sought-after dramatic mezzo-sopranos both in concert and on operatic stages. With her huge repertoire she has appeared at many of the world's leading opera houses, festivals and concert halls including the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra National de Paris, Zurich Opera House, Hamburg State Opera, Théâtre de la Monnaie, Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals, Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Berlin Philharmonie, Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall.

Yvonne Naef's concert engagements have included Verdi's Requiem with the Bavarian Radio Symphony and Mariss Jansons, a concert version of Wagner's Das Rheingold with Simon Rattle and Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with Christoph Eschenbach. As a specialist of Gustav Mahler's music she has performed the symphonies nos. 2, 3 and 8, Kindertotenlieder, Rückert Lieder, Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn under the direction of Boulez, Levine, Eschenbach, Bychkov, Welser-Möst, Cambreling, Frühbeck de Burgos, Nagano and Nott.

Yvonne Naef can be heard on numerous recordings, including Verdi's Il Trovatore from Covent Garden, Wagner's Das Rheingold, Schoenberg's Moses and Aaron and Gurrelieder, Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Schoeck's Penthesilea, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Brahms's Alto Rhapsodie and several songs by Berlioz and Wagner.
