Pekka Savijoki initially studied the saxophone at the Sibelius Academy and the Paris Conservatoire, graduating in 1977. He completed his conducting studies in 1986. He has led nearly all of Finland's professional orchestras and also the Swedish orchestras in Norrköping, Helsingborg, Uumaja and Västerås. Savijoki has also conducted performances at the Finnish National Opera, the Stockholm Folk Opera, the Music Theatre of Malmö, among others.
