A musical jack of all trades, Riku Niemi began his career as a percussionist but gradually branched out into composition, arrangement and conducting, as well. A composer of film and light music, he has worked as an arranger with Karita Mattila, Matti Salminen, Arja Koriseva, Iiro Rantala and others, all front-line Finnish artists in their respective field. Riku Niemi has also been a member of the Toimii! new music ensemble since 1989 and formed part of the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra from 1989-1997.
