Da Camera of Houston

Founded in Houston, Texas in 1987, Da Camera is one of North America's leading presenters and producers in the world of chamber music and jazz. Under the direction of pianist Sarah Rothenberg since 1994, Da Camera presents an annual series of thematically curated concerts performed by an international roster of musicians. Its original interdisciplinary productions connecting music to literature and visual art, conceived and directed by Rothenberg, have been presented by New York's Great Performers at Lincoln Center, Washington's Kennedy Center, Amsterdam's De Ijsbreker, London's Barbican Center and major venues across the United States. Da Camera has commissioned over 25 new works from such composers as Kaija Saariaho, Charles Wuorinen, Vijay Iyer, Jason Moran, Tobias Picker and George Tsontakis. Beyond the concert hall, Da Camera's active Education and Community Initiatives reach thousands of schoolchildren and city residents, and the Da Camera Young Artist program is a nationally recognized career development program for outstanding emerging professional musicians. A member of Houston's downtown Theater District, Da Camera also presents concerts at the Menil Collection and Rothko Chapel. Kaija Saariaho's Sombre was commissioned with support from the Koussevitzky Foundation; Da Camera presented the world premiere of Sombre at Rothko Chapel in February 2013.
