Maurice Ravel (1875-1937)

French composer and pianist Maurice Ravel (born March 7, 1875 in Ciboure near Biarritz, France; died December 28, 1937 in Paris) is best known to the general public for his orchestral piece Boléro of 1928, which he himself described as 'a piece for orchestra without music', but nevertheless is reputed to be the most often played composition of classical music.

Ravel's virtuosic and colorful piano music gave inspiration to Reijo Kiilunen, the founder of Ondine Records, to name the company after the first movement of the piano cycle Gaspard de la nuit.
