Jouni Kaipainen celebrates 50th birthday (29.11.2006)

Ondine celebrates Finnish composer Jouni Kaipainen's 50th birthday on November 24, 2006, with the release of a new recording of his recent works. The new disc (ODE 1089-2) couples Kaipainen's Third Symphony (1999-2004) with the Bassoon Concerto (2005), performed by the same forces who gave the two works' world premières (Otto Virtanen, bassoon / Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra / Hannu Lintu, conductor). Following its première performance, the Finnish press described the Third Symphony as "energetic, intense, virtuoso, ecstatic - abundantly voluptous". Previous releases of Kaipainen's works on Ondine include the Cello and the Horn Concertos (ODE 1062-2), the Oboe Concerto coupled with the Second Symphony (ODE 855-2), and the Clarinet Concerto (ODE 778-2).
