The calendar year 2023 has turned out to be a noteworthy year for the Ondine label with several significant prize-winning albums and nominations.
Two Gramophone Awards for Ondine
This October, two Ondine albums won the prestigious Gramophone award. An album of John Cage choral works by the Latvian Radio Choir won the Gramophone award for the best choral album and an album featuring works by Lotta Wennäkoski performed by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra won the Gramophone award for the best album in contemporary music.
In addition, Ondine’s long-time valuable artistic partner, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, was nominated for Orchestra of the Year award by the Gramophone magazine for its latest artistic merits.
Ondine wins German Record Critics’ Jahrespreis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik
Since 1963, music critics and journalists from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland regularly come together to honor outstanding music and spoken word productions making up to a maximum of 160 jurors. This year, the jury gave its annual classical music recording award for the Schubert piano trio album by Christian Tetzlaff, Tanja Tetzlaff and Lars Vogt released by Ondine. Considering the number of classical releases and the many fine recordings released in the past year, Ondine values this recognition very highly.
Ondine wins OPUS KLASSIK Award
OPUS KLASSIK is among the most important German prizes in classical music. Its jury consists of members who are representatives from the music and media industry. This year, Ondine’s Schubert piano trio album together with Christian Tetzlaff, Tanja Tetzlaff and Lars Vogt won the award for best chamber music album. The award ceremonies took place in Berlin on October 7 and October 8.
Ondine receives three nominations for the BBC Music Magazine Awards
In January 2023, Ondine’s John Cage choral album by the Latvian Radio Choir, Peter Jablonski’s Grazyna Bacewicz solo piano album and Zibuokle Martinaityte’s orchestral album together with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra were nominated for the BBC Music Magazine awards for ‘Choral Award’, ‘Instrumental album of the year’ and ‘Premiere recording’ awards.
Historic Billboard #1 chart position for Ondine
Ondine made recording history by reaching Billboard #1 chart position in ‘Traditional Classical Albums’ for two consecutive weeks with its Schubert piano trio album by Christian Tetzlaff, Tanja Tetzlaff and Lars Vogt. It was the first time for a Finnish record label to reach Billboard #1 chart position in any music genre.
