This CD contains a selection of works for male choir a cappella by Franz Schubert, featuring the Polytech Choir under the direction of Tapani Länsiö.
Schubert, the composer of almost 600 songs for voice and piano, also wrote more than 50 songs for unaccompanied male chorus which are not widely known. They were written for private soirées where gentlemen gathered to drink and sing part-songs, a custom spread to Germany at the turn of the 19th century.
