This new release is pianist-conductor Lars Vogt’s debut album together with the Orchestre de chambre de Paris. Lars Vogt started his tenure as the new Music Director of the orchestra on 1 July 2020. This album release continues Lars Vogt’s discography of recordings of cornerstone works within the classic piano concerto literature conducting from the keyboard. Previous album releases include the complete piano concertos of Beethoven and Brahms with the Royal Northern Sinfonia. In 2021, Lars Vogt won the OPUS Klassik award for the best solo piano album release of year from his recent Janácek solo album release (ODE 1382-2). In January 2022, the same album also won an ICMA Award.

Felix Mendelssohn’s two numbered Piano Concertos are works of great virtuosity, brilliance, and poetry by a young composer. Both moments of calm and storm alternate in these works. Their slow movements are particularly known for their great warmth and beauty, not being very far away from the world of Mozart’s concertos.

Lars Vogt was appointed the first ever “Pianist in Residence” by the Berlin Philharmonic in 2003/04 and enjoys a high profile as a soloist and chamber musician. His debut solo recording on Ondine with Bach’s Goldberg Variations (ODE 1273-2) was released in August 2015 with great critical success. In 2020, Lars Vogt was announced as the next Music Director of Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and the present album is his recording debut together with the orchestra. Lars Vogt was nominated for Gramophone’s Artist of the Year award in 2017. His recordings of Beethoven’s Piano Concertos Nos. 2 & 4 (ODE 1311-2) together with the Royal Northern Sinfonia both received Gramophone’s Editor’s Choice. Also, his Brahms concerto series also received Gramophone’s Editor’s Choice in January 2020 (ODE 1330-2) and BBC Music Magazine Concerto Choice in August 2020 (ODE 1346-2). In 2021, Lars Vogt received the OPUS Klassik award for his Janáček solo piano album (ODE 1382-2) as the piano album of the year.

More than forty years after it was founded, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris is considered one of Europe’s foremost chamber orchestras. The orchestra performs throughout Greater Paris with concerts at the Philharmonie, where it is a resident ensemble, at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Théâtre du Châtelet, as well as other venues in proximity to the metropolitan population, in addition to developing numerous international tours. Since 2020, the orchestra’s musical director is conductor and pianist Lars Vogt.  Under his direction, it is pursuing and strengthening its unique artistic approach and firm commitment to chamber music.
